charming collage artist statement september 2023
an artist statement to go along with an mixed media textile/drawing installation i created september 2023.
soft sculptures create familiarity to an intangible space as they represent a part of nostalgic past, similar to a dream….even sometimes i cant remember if i had a dream or a memory…
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧ .˚ₓ
art is a tool we use to jump into and out of a an intangible mind field…it is a language to physically describe what visually belongs in a memory
the plush figures feel like a soft spot to land onto amidst this timeless space….i visit the physical space to connect with the nostalgic recollections
framed drawings and cut out hanging charms depict a visual interpretation of spaces/objects that almost create familiarity to the memory but are too fantastical to be a reality…
the ephemeral installation aspect of the space creates a wistful interpretation of the passing of dreams and reminders.
I invite you to ponder your own memories and how they manifest into the physical realm. ♥*♡∞:｡.｡
lagoon findings

⋆｡ 𖦹 ° for many years, the lagoon’s natural landmark was desolate and dark…⋆｡ 𖦹 °
the city discovered it by excavating through a pile of discarded items…there was nothing in this cave when it was found, the walls became black and the plants had dried from the suffocation of the unnatural material ˑ༄ؘ ۪۪۫۫
as the city grew, they found the need for a place for creatures and new inhabitants to collect their water source and plant growth technology from, so they started working to restore the cave’s habitat…
the city released specific bioluminescent creatures to eat pieces of the unnatural materials, which they convert to plant life through cyrid-amalgamation (a process that is in current further studying, although recent findings have concluded that the shapes on their bodies indicate a specific organ that emits a different process for breaking down material)
while all creatures are essential to reviving the lagoon, the waterfall creatures are the most essential to the ecosystems revival process. the spiral is the most powerful shaped organ - creating a deposit and release for new life forms to thrive ˑ༄ؘ ۪۪۫۫
eventually, as the material started to decay, patterns began to form in the water and on the walls of the cave. this was the sign of new life beginning ˑ༄ؘ ۪۪۫۫

My work is slightly related to realistic forms, but also very much removed.
The pieces come from a specific space of disassociation…I've never seen dissociation as a harmful feeling, I believe it is sometimes necessary to detach; we need spaces to exist outside of reality to retain our mind within the chaos of it.
Soft sculpture has historically been a safe haven art space. There’s nothing harsh or edgy about the plush rounded figures, it’s a protected place of familiarity in the safest way possible. sculpture seems to portray some sort of delusional reality of the way we perceive the world, or ways we wish it was molded...
My created patterns and shapes collaborate in different ways with each piece…
i warp odd textures, deep saturated colors, and shiny found objects to embellish the shapes in my work into their own isolated-fantasy realm.
I do not collect the embellishments with intention, they come to me at various times until I have enough found material to build each piece.
The shapes I portray in my work come from a more grounded perspective, as it is easier to study real world forms for what they are in a non-dissociated state.
i choose shapes inspired by flora, angelic bugs, sea & land creatures, and space…these concepts bring wholeness back from detachment in somewhat of a spiritual way, in an interconnected with the universe way.
i hope to create my own universes in that way too, where things are aligned, and where you feel familiar and comforted; while also allowing yourself to detach into your own space.
